Dining Room Mini Makeover

Our apologies for being offline the last few days. We started a number of small house projects over the weekend, and they turned out to be a lot more time consuming than we had anticipated. One of the projects we worked on was adding an extra pantry and redoing our dining room area.
Our kitchen does not have a lot of pantry space, so we decided to add another pantry at the end of the kitchen (where it meets the dining room). Not just any pantry though.... I really wanted to do a pantry that was magnetic and a chalkboard (somewhere to hang some pictures and write out different lists or messages to the family). We were able to find a pantry that would fit our space at Home Depot so we got that and the magnetic primer and chalkboard paint and got to work. Painting the pantry was very time consuming because you have to wait for the paint to dry in between each coat ( 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of chalkboard paint). Thankfully my husband took on the daunting task of painting the pantry (nothing is more attractive than a man who will do something he hates  just to make you happy lol)!

Here is what our dining room looked like before the makeover:

Dining Room Before

The gold plates are sentimental, they were given to me by my Great Grandmother who passed away two years ago, but they didn't really fit with the "theme" of our house. I found some really cute ideas to display kids artworks from Pinterest and we got to work on that too! I found some really cheap all black frames at IKEA and framed some of the artwork our kids have done over the years. I probably would have picked a lot of pictures to display, but my husband thought it would be best to keep it at 6 pieces (don't tell him I think he was right lol). Here is the finished product:
